If your foot function is deemed to be playing a role in your back pain, then your podiatrist can offer treatment to correct the biomechanical function of your feet and legs. In many cases of back pain associated with foot function, custom foot orthotics is the most effective treatment to improve foot function. Orthotics for back pain are designed to limit any excessive motion of the feet, and to improve symmetry between the left and right feet. The best orthotics for back pain are custom orthotics because they are designed to fit your feet exactly and are designed with your specific circumstance in mind.
Across both of our wellness centres, AHP Connect accepts most major health funds and payment types, including Medibank, Bupa, and HBF. The amount you can use on private health and additional rebates such as CTP Insurance Scheme and Work Cover are different for each service.
The main differences between dry needling and acupuncture are the technique and theory for how and where the needles are placed.
Dry needling is focused on using strong stimulation of trigger points to reduce muscle tension. In contrast to this, western anatomical acupuncture is based on channel theory and does not use strong stimulation, but rather uses trigger points to heal the body and muscle naturally. A physical therapist will use dry needling to relieve pain and tension from knots and pressure points in muscle tissue, whereas practitioners of acupuncture insert needles to release endorphins and affect the central nervous system. Additionally, acupuncture needles are typically left in place for 15-30 minutes, whereas during dry needling the needles are typically left in for no longer than 15 minutes.
Shockwave therapy is an effective, non-surgical treatment for painful disorders. It is a multidisciplinary device used across a range of disciplines and its main assets are fast pain relief and mobility restoration. As a non-surgical therapy, shockwave is an ideal form of treatment to speed up recovery and target various indications causing acute or chronic pain. Indications such as jumper’s knee, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, and trigger points can benefit from shockwave therapy.
There are no Public Health Directions in effect requiring you to wear a face mask. Masks are still recommended: if you’re diagnosed with COVID-19 or have symptoms of an acute respiratory infection.
Our team of highly trained podiatrists can prescribe custom-made orthotics and shoe inserts to assist with a range of conditions including hip pain, Achilles tendinopathy, biomechanical faults, and improve foot function.
We advise participants to wear pool-suitable clothing – this can include swim wear or gym wear. Heavy fabrics such as cotton t-shirts absorb water and become heavy. Lighter weight polyesters tend not to absorb so much water. Boardshorts and a rashie are easily found and suitable for the pool.
In addition to pool-suitable clothing, please bring a water bottle, towel, and rubber thongs.
Both hydrotherapy pools used at Rathdowne Place and Racecourse Grange are heated to a comfortable 34-degrees Celsius, year-round.
This temperature has been chosen as it is a “thermo-neutral” temperature. This means that most people keep the same core temperature when immersed in water of 34 degrees. This is ideal for low intensity exercise over short periods of higher intensity exercise.
