Dry needling and acupuncture differ primarily in their techniques and underlying theories regarding needle placement.
Dry needling involves the application of strong stimulation to trigger points, aiming to alleviate muscle tension. Conversely, western anatomical acupuncture follows channel theory and focuses on natural healing through trigger points, without employing intense stimulation. Physical therapists employ dry needling to relieve pain and tension caused by muscle knots and pressure points. On the other hand, acupuncture practitioners insert needles to stimulate the release of endorphins and influence the central nervous system.
Another distinction lies in the duration of needle retention. Acupuncture needles typically remain in place for 15-30 minutes, whereas during dry needling, the needles are usually removed within 15 minutes.
Shockwave therapy is a highly effective and non-surgical approach to treating painful disorders. This versatile treatment method is employed across various disciplines, offering rapid pain relief and restoring mobility. As a non-invasive therapy, shockwave treatment is particularly well-suited for expediting recovery and addressing a wide range of conditions that cause acute or chronic pain. Conditions like jumper’s knee, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, and trigger points can greatly benefit from the application of shockwave therapy.
There are no Public Health Directions in effect requiring you to wear a face mask. Masks are still recommended: if you’re diagnosed with COVID-19 or have symptoms of an acute respiratory infection.
Our team of extensively trained podiatrists has the expertise to prescribe personalized orthotics and shoe inserts that can effectively address a variety of conditions. These solutions are tailored to provide support for issues such as hip pain, Achilles tendinopathy, biomechanical faults, and to enhance overall foot functionality.
Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate attire for the pool, such as swimwear or gym wear. It is important to avoid heavy fabrics like cotton t-shirts that tend to absorb water and become cumbersome. Opting for lighter weight polyester materials can minimize water absorption. Boardshorts and a rashie are readily available options that are suitable for pool activities.
In addition to pool-suitable clothing, please remember to bring essential items such as a water bottle, towel, and rubber thongs.
The hydrotherapy pools at Rathdowne Place and Racecourse Grange are consistently heated to a comfortable 34 degrees Celsius throughout the year.
This specific temperature has been carefully selected as it is considered “thermo-neutral.” In other words, most individuals maintain their core body temperature when immersed in water set at 34 degrees. This makes it an ideal temperature for engaging in low-intensity exercises or shorter durations of higher intensity exercise.
